Indigenous Methods of Healing Workshop

This workshop introduces the indigenous model of health, which views well-being as a balance between mind, body, spirit, and community. Lisa Martinez will discuss the value of ancestral healing practices and a variety of modalities including ceremony,story telling,and spiritual work as well as offer some insight as to the ways successful healing is measured when utilizing these culturally rich practices.

  • Contextual understanding that Indigenous healing practices were once criminalized, and that the ability to utilize them today is an important act of resistance, a statement of resilience and cultural survival.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze the intersections of colonial histories, cultural erasure, and current health disparities
    • E- Health disparities
  • Explain how indigenous healing practices can support resilience and recovery in marginalized communities
    • I- Multicultural competence and diversity.

This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 2 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.
