By the end of this session, participants will be able to compare and discern between trafficking & exploitation and sex work.

J. Sexual exploitation, including sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual assault

By the end of this session, participants will be able to explain the other factors which impact the trafficking conversation, including the role of migration, racism, and patriarchy.

C. Socio-cultural factors (e.g. ethnicity, culture, religion, spirituality, socio-economic status, family values) in relation to sexual values and behaviors

The misunderstanding of trafficking impacts the culture of sexuality in America, including those involved in the sex trade by choice, circumstance, coercion, or an intersection of all three, as well as the consumers of consensual sexual services. In this course we will dive into the complexities of sex trafficking from a sociocultural and anti-oppression perspective. We will explore the typical patterns of trafficking, the myths and lies, as well as the propaganda and underlying forces which drive the trafficking narratives. We will clarify distinctions between trafficking and sex work, as well as provide resources for identifying and working with both survivors and Sex workers.
