The Red Light Rules: Moulin Rouge

"Moulin Rouge was my hyperfixation in middle school and 100% subconsciously (or probably very directly) made me want to become a sex worker! It’s one of the few musicals I love and, visually, it’s stunning — a racy, kaleidoscope fever dream that sticks with you ever after it’s over.
Satine, our main character, is a courtesan in the middle of a love triangle between a penniless writer and a wealthy Duke. She’s pulled between love and riches. While it’s not the best sex worker representation because it includes a few stereotypical tropes, it’s absolutely one of my favorite movies (and movie soundtracks).
One of my favorite lines that I hold near and dear to my heart: “the only way of lovin' me baby, is to pay a ✨lovely✨ fee.” OKAY!!!!"
